A referee game log that outlives the spreadsheet

Every official has built the spreadsheet: date, game, fee, a Paid column. It works in week one. By mid-season it has three tabs, a broken SUMIF, and a Paid column you no longer trust, because payments don’t arrive one game at a time.

What kills the spreadsheet

• Lump payments. One check covers five games; a checkbox per game can’t represent it, so you guess.
• Phone entry. Spreadsheet apps on a phone in a parking lot are miserable, so games get logged “later”.
• No clock. Nothing tells you the association is 30 days late; you find out in January.

What to use instead

A log built for the job: add a game in 20 seconds, duplicate yesterday’s, import the assignor calendar. Payments are first-class records matched to games, so “paid” means a real deposit covered it. Expected pay dates make lateness visible.
